At WNC Food Coalition, our work is centered on building healthy communities and healthy economies.

Through the creation of new resources, as well as fostering and supporting the resources that already exist in and serve our region, we endeavor to strengthen the WNC food system for a thriving community and economy.

Our Work

Healthy Communities

Community Pantries

Our FREE Community Food Pantries are available to ALL.

There is no limit to how much you take.

Take what you need, neighbors. All of our pantries operate on this model. We hope that when folks get food, they are reminded that people are rooting for them all across WNC.

These are Coalition-sponsored, community-owned pantries.

We welcome you to stock it as you are able. If right now, that’s not realistic, feel NO guilt. We believe that mutual aid means that other folks in your community will give out of their abundance, regardless of your ability to contribute.

Who should take food?

ANYONE WHO EATS! Rich people, poor people, tall people, small people. All the people. (Dogs and Cats welcome too.)

Local Food Councils

County-based councils are committed to problem-solving local food and agriculture issues. Most councils meet monthly; all are volunteer based and have unique priorities. Reach out to the emails provided if you live or work in a county with a council and would like to get involved!

Food Hub Collaborative

The WNC Food Hub Collaborative represents the largest, most innovative partnership of independent food aggregators ever in Western North Carolina: more than 10 participating Food Hubs are working together to re-create a food economy that expands food access for all of WNC and supports hundreds of local farms.

Tens of thousands of families, businesses, restaurants and more are fed nutritious, local food through charitable distribution and retail enterprises with these Hubs.

This Collaborative:

  • Creates a benchmark of excellence for aggregators across the state and beyond

  • Establishes standards for local food procurement and distribution

  • Lays the foundation for a radically transformed local food economy that prioritizes health and wellness for all!
